Al Volkman, Director, International Cooperation, OUSD (AT&L) and RADM Francis Jouanjean, Defense Cooperation Attache, French Embassy, Washington DC have agreed to co-chair the 25th Common Defense Conference. The event is organized in association with National Defense University.

Network-centric connectivity has become central to the effective transformation of the armed services. These forces will invariably operate in coalitions and appropriate interoperability has become a key issue. This conference will highlight the political, military and industrial issues involved in interoperability as well as provide a status report on international defense cooperation at the beginning of the Congressional Calendar.

The list of confirmed speakers will discuss, “Towards Interoperability” as well as:-

• Potential international cooperative programs and funding streams
• Status report on ongoing cooperative programs
• Cooperative RDT&E
• Congressional activity and legislation with implications for international defense cooperation
• CIFUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States)
• Technology Transfer and Export Controls
• European Industrial defense integration and the European Defense Agency
• Future transnational industry consolidation
