Michael Abramson is the President and CEO of the Advanced Systems Management Group (ASMG Ltd. and Co-chair OMG C4I DTF, with a nearly 30-year history of developing innovative business solutions for major public and private sector organizations. Mr. Abramson is currently the Co-Chair of the Command, Control, Communications, Collaboration and Intelligence (C4I) Domain Task Forces (DTF) at OMG and Participant on the Crisis Response Execu tive Advisory TEAM (CREATE). For the last decade, ASMG has been focusing on evolving flexible and adaptiveframeworks for delivering interoperability (information sharing and information assurance) during coalition and pan-agency operations.

Carmella T. Angus is Chief Executive Officer for TETRAD Technologies Group, Inc., a late-phase product development and commercialization company focused on the CBRNE sensors, emergency/pandemic technologies and integrated situational analysis and communications solutions. Prior to TETRAD, Ms. Angus was President of a private business development/strategic planning consulting firm for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical devices industry. From 1989-2003, Carmella T. Angus held progressively senior management roles within Astra, Warner Lambert and Pharmacia. During this period, Carmella was the key product strategist responsible for the successful launch of four products (e.g. Lipitor). Carmella holds a BScN and an MSc. from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto , and an MBA in Global Management.

Al Arseneault was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of the Canada/United States International Boundary Commission in 2000, where he manages the day to day affairs of the Canadian Section. Al Arseneault was trained and educated in the field of land surveying and was commissioned as a Canada Lands Surveyor in 1989. He spent the first 20 years of his professional career working for the Office of the Surveyor General of Canada where he managed surveys on aboriginal lands, the northern territories and national parks. He was born and raised in Smooth Rock Falls, a small northern community in Ontario, Canada. He has been married 26 years and together with his wife Betty, they raised a daughter Jolene (23) and son Andrew (19). Mr. Arseneault is an avid outdoorsman who is passionate about hunting and fishing.

Mark Aruja is the Business Development Manager for Air Programs at Thales Canada’s Systems Division in Ottawa. Previously, he served for 32 years in the Canadian forces as a maritime navigator and with staff tours at both Air Command and National Defence Headquarters. His command appointments included HT406, the Sea King Operational Training Unit, 12 Wing responsible for Naval Aviation, and the Canadian Forces Experimentation Centre. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Royal Military College and is a graduate of the Air Force’s Aerospace Systems course and the National Security Studies program.

Dr. Anthony Ashley began his career as a Defence Scientist at the Defence Research Establishment Atlantic, Dartmouth , Nova Scotia . During the ‘80s and ‘90s he led programs that developed and demonstrated concepts that provide the core functionality of sonar systems now in use by the Canadian Forces, Belgium & Portugal . In 2000 he became Director Science and Technology Maritime in Ottawa . As Chief Scientist at DRDC Ottawa he oversaw the development of the scientific capacity of the lab. in a number of fields including radar, RF electronic Warfare, Navigation Warfare, Synthetic Environments, Network Info rmation Operations, ISR systems & Radiation Detection. In his current role as Director General of the Centre for Security Science, he & his team are developing an S&T program for public safety & national security. Dr. Ashley has BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba .

 Dr. Patrick BarAvi is Vice President for Business Development of Rafael USA, Inc since August 2005. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and has a Ph.D. from Rutgers University in NJ in Mechanical Engineering. His career in Rafael began in 1985 as a Research Engineer immediately following his graduation. Since then he has held positions in Rafael as a system engineer, project manager and business development. In October 2000, Dr. BarAvi was appointed Director and the Head of the Sensing and Active Protection System Directorate. Dr. Bar-Avi has published a text book in Dynamics and about 20 papers in international scientific journals he is also the inventor of six patents. Born in Jerusalem in 1959, Dr. BarAvi is married with One son and two daughters.

 Commander Julian Bennett has thirty years experience as a Metropolitan Police Officer in London , England , having joined as a Police Cadet at the age of 16 in 1975. He rose through the ranks in East and North East London - including 7 years in Hackney, firstly as a Constable and also as Superintendent. He was head of the Inspectorate at New Scotland Yard before being promoted to Commander (and a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO)) in November 2003. In November 2005 , following London's successful bid, he was appointed as the full time lead to deliver security for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012. He set up a multi agency Olympic Security Directorate to deliver an Olympic Security Program. He has degrees in law and organizational management and he qualified as a non-practising barrister in 1993.

Dr. Azzedine Boukerche is a Full Professor in the School of Information Technology and Engineering, and Canada Research Chair in Large-Scale Distributed Interactive Simulations and Mobile Computing and Networking. He is the Founding Director of PARADISE Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa . He is working towards integrating his current research towards the emergency preparedness and response, as well as public safety and security class of applications. He received several IEEE/ACM Best Paper awards as well as Research Excellence awards including the Ontario
Distinguished Researcher Award, Ontario Early Research Award (previous ly known as Premier of Ontario Research Excellence Award), and the Glinski Research Excellence Award.

Mark A. Camillo is currently serving at Lockheed Martin Corporation within the Transportation & Security Solutions operating company, Mr. Camillo’s duties focus on public safety and security, border and transportation security and critical infrastructure protection. Prior to joining Lockheed, Mark served as a Special Agent in the U.S. Secret Service, having completed a distinguished 21 year career with a final assignment as the Chief Technology Officer, overseeing all operations of the major technology Divisions of the Secret Service. Previous leadership positions included serving as a Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary Tom Ridge at DHS Headquarters, head of security operations at the White House complex, and the Secret Service Olympic Coordinator for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics.

Michael B. Darch is the Executive Director of Ottawa Global Marketing. The Global Marketing group at OCRI is responsible for the attraction of investment, companies and people to the Ottawa region, the branding and marketing of the City of Ottawa , the management of Ottawa ’s global partnerships and the support of Ottawa ’s technology clusters. He has been the driving force behind the economic partnerships formed between Ottawa and several U.S. cities and is now building Asian, European and Latin American partnerships. Michael is a Senior Research Fellow at the Program of Research on Innovation Management and Economy (PRIME) in the School of Management at the University of Ottawa . Michael holds Masters degrees in Business from the University of Ottawa and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada.

Lloyd M. Ellam is Vice President, Risk Management and Innovation, Iceberg Networks Corporation, and Executive Advisor on Homeland Security, Canadian Advanced Technology Association. Mr. Ellam has also served in postings to NATO and NORAD as a line officer specializing in Electronic Warfare and has done crisis control training in nuclear, chemical, and biological disasters. He was previously Director Crisis Management and Innovation, Bell Canada . Earlier he was Vice President and Technology Practice Leader, Marsh Crisis Consulting. He was recruited from the Canadian Marsh Company to lead the Cyber Security initiative by Ambassador Paul Bremer. Mr. Ellam is a Graduate of The Royal Military College ( BSc.Eng.) and Strathclyde (MSc. (Physics). He is a licensed insurance broker, and investigator.

Shane Folden is a Supervisory Special Agent in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Mr. Folden is currently the Section Chief for the Arms and Strategic Technology Investigations Programs Section within the ICE National Security Division. As the Section Chief, Mr. Folden is responsible for developing new initiatives, as well as providing guidance and support for criminal investigations involving the unlawful transfer of munitions and other controlled United States items and technology to foreign entities. During his career, Mr. Folden has served as a Supervisory Special Agent and Senior Special Agent in various criminal investigatory areas including drug smuggling, child exploitation, money laundering, and Arms and Strategic Technology.

Special Agent Edward G. Holland is the Unit Chief for Investigative Programs. The mission of the unit is to manage day to day investigative matters such as: executive-level dual-use licensing enforcement-related cases; confidential informants; industry and government agency liaison; security; deemed export compliance; CFIUS enforcement; Voluntary Self-Disclosure Program, etc., as it pertains to the Office of Export Enforcement. The Office is the enforcement arm of the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), US Department of Commerce.

Robert Hooks serves as the Director of Transition, in the Science and Technology Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security. Previously Mr. Hooks served as the Acting Chief of Staff for the Science and Technology Directorate. Prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security in July 2003, Mr. Hooks served 20 years in the U.S. Navy in a variety of positions as a submarine officer, financial analyst, intelligence analyst, and personnel specialist. He also served as an intelligence analyst for special programs at the National Security Agency where he authored several strategic intelligence assessments. Mr. Hooks graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering. He also holds a Masters of Administrative Science in Financial Management from The Johns Hopkins University.

David M. Jurkowski, CMM, CD, BEng (Brigadier-General – Retired) is Vice President, Government Relations & Aircraft Sales Support – Canada , for Aircraft Services & New Commercial Aircraft Program, a Division of Bombardier Aerospace. A native of Selkirk , Manitoba , Mr Jurkowski holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada. His military career includes 3,500 flying hours of operational fighter and advanced jet pilot training experience in Europe and Canada . He has commanded at the Tactical Fighter Squadron, Wing and Group levels and has extensive crisis management experience at the strategic headquarters level in many high visibility events which range from Chernobyl , through the Gulf War to the Kosovo Crisis. As Chief of Staff Joint Operations for the Canadian Forces, he oversaw 72 operations around the globe during his three year appointment prior to retiring in 2000. Before joining Bombardier Aerospace in May 2001, Mr Jurkowski was a Principal Consultant on a study to establish a regional emergency Coordination Centre for Ottawa - Canada ’s Capital City of more than a million people.

Dane A. Marolt is the Director of International Business Development, for the RQ-4 Global Hawk, the MQ-8 Fire Scout, and the BQM-74 Targets family of Unmanned Systems for Northrop Grumman. For almost 4 years, Dane has been marketing the capabilities of Northrop Grumman unmanned aircraft systems to Pacific Rim and European nations. Prior to this , Marolt was the Australian country director for the deputy under secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs (SAF/IA) at the Pentagon. During Operation Urgent Fury in Granada , he flew the lead C2 aircraft in the invasion. Marolt later became chief of Flight Safety for the PACAF AOR. While in the USAF, he also served as the Chief of International Flight Operations, Defense Logistics Agency. He retired from active duty in 2003 with more than 3,300 flight hours.

Superintendent Joe Oliver joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in April 1986 and was appointed to the rank of Superintendent in September 2005. In 1999, Supt. Oliver transferred to National Headquarters, Ottawa where he continued to advance cross-border law enforcement initiatives. In the aftermath of 9-11, he was seconded to the Department of the Solicitor General Canada. Between 2001 and 2003, Supt. Oliver was Canada ’s lead negotiator on the illicit trade provisions of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). Currently, Supt. Oliver co-chairs the CBCF’s Border Enforcement Group and is Vice Chair of an international experts group responsible for elaborating a protocol template on the illicit tobacco trade under the WHO FCTC.

Dr. Murat Saatcioglu is Vice Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa . He is also a Professor and University Research Chair in the Department of Civil Engineering of the same university. He is currently the President of the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering and the Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Earthquake Engineering Research Centre. Professor Saatcioglu is the recipient of numerous national and international research and teaching awards. He is currently organizing a University of Ottawa Research Centre on “Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Management.” This inter-disciplinary Centre has the objective of promoting research and training in areas that relate to natural and human-induced disasters, as well as pandemics.

Mark B. Salter is an associate professor at the School of Political Studies , University of Ottawa . He received a Master’s from the London School of Economics and a doctorate from the University of British Columbia . He is currently researching the use of risk management in Canadian border policing and editing a collection entitled Politics of/at the Airport. He is the author of “Canadian Post-9.11 Border Policy: Smart, Safe, Sovereign,” “Passports, Mobility, and Security: How Smart Can the Border Be?” and Rights of Passage: the passport in international relations, and editor with Elia Zureik of Global Policing and Surveillance: borders, security identity. He also acted as a consultant for the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority and Transport Canada .

Dr. Sawada , is an Associate Professor of Geomatics and Director of the Laboratory for Applied Geomatics and GIS Science, University of Ottawa , Dept. of Geography. He was the recipient of the 2005 Julian M. Sciez Award and 2006 Young Researcher of the Year, Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on applied GIS, Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems, spatial analysis and 3-D visualization applied to hazard mitigation, vulnerability assessment and security logistics. With the participation of public and private partners his graduate students work on applied projects of contemporary relevance to society. Sawada is funded from NSERC, Parks Canada, Environment Canada, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) and major contributions from the Faculty of Arts and DELL Canada Inc. among others.

Rafi Sela is President of AR Challenges, LTd. ( Israel ) & AR Challenges (USA), Inc. Mr. Sela is a former Co-Chairman of the US Airport Security Task force at HSIA – Homeland Security Industries Association ( USA ) & founder & former President of the ILHSIA – Israeli Homeland Security Industries Association. He currently manages teaming projects between Israeli Homeland Security companies and their counterparts in North America , India and SE Asia , and has extensive Defense and Security business development experience in North America and Europe for over 30 years. Mr. Sela s erved in the IDF for 20 years as a senior Ordnance Officer specializing in product development for the Special operations. (Including the design and manufacturing of the equipment for the Entebbe raid). He is married with three children and four grandchildren.

Tony Swansson is the Boeing Deputy Program Manager for the Department of Homeland Security’s Secure Border Initiative (SBInet) Program. He is responsible for leading the Program Management Team and establishing strong relationships with the Department of Customs and Border Protection. Prior to his current position, Tony was the Director of Airport Security Programs for Homeland Security group. In that role, he d irected activities on the Explosive Detection Systems and Explosive Trace Detection equipment for the $1.4 billion U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) program managing deployment at over 430 airports and directed 30,000 people dealing with more than 3,000 stakeholders in a very compressed timeframe. Prior to moving to the U.S. Tony worked for Boeing Australia as the General Manager of Space and Communications Services.

Rob Welton is the Director of Homeland Security Programs at the DC office of Magal-Senstar Inc (MSI) a Fremont CA based manufacturer of high technology security solutions for outdoor perimeters. In addition to its own lines of security products in the USA, Magal-Senstar Inc also represents in the USA the product portfolio of Magal Security Systems Ltd and Senstar Stellar Corporation. Prior to joining Magal-Senstar Inc Mr. Welton was Executive V.P., Marketing and Sales for Knowledge Vector Inc, a developer of web services for security fusion applications. Under his leadership the company raised significant venture capital while securing major contracts in civilian and military infrastructure ($10M USD SPAN – Secure Perimeter Awareness Network) that resulted in the award of an advanced development contract involving the USAF, TSA and TSWG/CTTSO.

David Whiteree is Chairman of IDEEA, Inc., Chief Executive and founder of the ComDef series of exhibitions and symposia. IDEEA, Inc. is a full service international business development and marketing company established in Washington DC . Mr. Whiteree is founder/publisher of “Common Defense Forum”.

Quentin Whiteree has been President and Chief Operating Officer of IDEEA, Inc. since 1 January, 1999 .  Prior to this, he was Vice President of the company, responsible for business focus, with an emphasis on emerging information and computer technologies.  He joined IDEEA, Inc. in 1987 and has held a series of appointments within the company.  He holds a joint BA honors degree in marketing from Strathclyde University , Scotland and is a past President of its Wine Appreciation Society.  Mr. Whiteree is a member of the Defense and National Security Committee of the British American Business Association, Committee Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Washington , DC Chapter and the National Press Club.
