ComDef Theme

The Common Defense (ComDef) series of conferences seeks to provide a forum for U.S. and international government, military and industry to discuss defense cooperation in an informal setting. The first ComDef was held in 1987 and the event has been held every year except 1991.

The major themes of ComDef have been making defense more affordable through government-to-government cooperation, technology transfer cooperation and industrial partnerships. ComDef also provides an insight into future international operational requirements through a series of country briefings.

ComDef was first held in Crystal City, Virginia in 1987. In 1995, ComDef was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the first time ComDef has been held outside of the United States.
